We are in need of a CRM solution ideally that uses Sharepoint as a back end of sorts. We have lots of lists, repositories, custom web parts in Sharepoint, and are currently using it as our CRM system, but we need more. I would like to keep my core data in Sharepoint, but would love a simple web part, or custom app that acts like a front end and uses our Sharepoint data sources as the data... does such a thing exist?

I'm afraid the answer is MSCRM, which seems like way overkill for what we need.

Any thoughts appreciated....

What type of data are you looking to store and display in a custom sharepoint web part? Perhaps a custom solution would be more for your liking as MSCRM even the newest versions are quite extensive with sales and marketing in mind... Since sharepoint is already built on data, you could easily create new sections to emulate a low-end CRM pretty easily (well with a little time and effort) ;-)

Well, I want to have standard CRM funtions, ideally based around Outlook, that allow us to keep contact info, notes per contact, scheduled events per contact, and tasks per contact. Also, i'd love to have the ability to have pre-defined functions called from a quick dropdown or check box, like send this person this email with this attachment on this date, etc...

We currently are using Sharepoint for much of this, but have no connection to Outlook, and missing many of these functions.... I have found many soutions that would work, but none that will allow me to keep using my SPS DBs as my data sources... which I want because they are tied into other internal apps we have developed...

Make sense?

Thks!

My understanding of the products out there match what you've already experienced--most will use some proprietary back-end different than Sharepoint's, so you might need to develop your own application. There are ways to hook in to both Sharepoint's DB and Outlook, so it should be possible to make what you want--would you be interested in discussing options for a custom-coded front-end?

Yes, I would be interested. Can you email me your thoughts at brian@partnerpoint.com?

Thanks!
