I have a problem that I need help with the issue is I need an auto number created with a variable created from another field in access

It's going to take some code. Depends on exactly what you want. Although it will not be exactly what you are looking for, you'll find a starting point at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/210194. If you Google for access custom autonumber, you'll find a ton of articles.

I use this also and it's easy. It takes a real autonum field (autonum1) and another field to create your calculated autonum. You place a control bound to the custom autonum field (autonum2). We'll call the field you want to grab the variable from variable1. If you are using a form, set the default value of the custom autonum to the autonum value plus your second field. Like: autonum2=autonum1 & variable1. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. If you aren't using a form, do it through an update query.
