We have a project that needs a dedicated ASP.NET 3.5 server and SQL DB (2005 or 2008). It is a public facing ecommerce site. I would like to have the control of a dedicated server with the flexibility of a shared solution. The site will be 10 users in alpha, 1000 in beta, thousands more once it goes live. I would rather not pay for a dedicated server while in alpha and beta only to have that server be underpowered when we go live. So it looks like a Virtual Private Server is the way to go. It would let us build the app small and cheap and then increase resources to accomodate greater traffic as soon as we need it. Only, I don't know anything about the VPS hosting business. Who is good? Who is bad? Must haves: root access [install software], SQL 2k5 or 2k8, remote desktop, 99.99 uptime, great support. Any suggestions from actual customers (sorry, not sales guys at hosting companies) is appreciated. I'm especially interested in what the upsize experience was like. When you first discovered the need, how long did the host take to increase your processor power/RAM/Bandwidth/Storage? Thanks a bunch. |

Try www.netstandard.com. They've got good products at reasonable prices from what I can tell. Also, I've recommended them before to others, who've all had good experiences. I know them through one of the firms partners, we were at the same company once upon a time before his business took off and became what is now netstandard. |
